A pre-conference training workshop on Rosaceae bioinformatics and genomic technologies will be held at HortResearch Mt Albert, Auckland, 13-17 March 2006. Places will be limited.

Intended audience

This workshop targets post-graduates and graduate students who work or intend to work on Rosaceae Genomics. It will provide a general introduction to fruit tree research and a range of more specific lectures and lab sessions on different aspects of genomics.

The workshop will be held at the Mount Albert Research Centre (HortResearch, Auckland, NZ), where a broad variety of genomic programmes are carried on in various fruit species. Time will be allocated for discussions and interaction with local researchers and visitors who will also be attending the RGC3 conference in Napier.

Holding the workshop is conditional on receiving funding. Applicants will be contacted once this has been confirmed.

Topics

The following topics will be covered:

  • Bioinformatics and database
  • Gene expression studies
  • Gene discovery, transformation and functional analysis
  • Gene mapping, QTL, molecular markers and association studies
  • Links to other ‘omics’ (eg proteomics, metabolomics, …)
Tutors
  • Andrew Allan (HortResearch): Gene discovery, plant physiology.
  • Angela Baldo (Cornell University): Bioinformatics.
  • David Chagné (HortResearch): Gene mapping, molecular markers.
  • Toshi Foster (HortResearch): Gene discovery, plant development.
  • Elena Hilario (HortResearch): Bioinformatics, molecular markers.
  • Dorrie Main (Clemson University): Bioinformatics.
  • Jeanne Romero-Severson (University of Notre Dame): Gene mapping, gene expression.
  • Robert Schaffer (HortResearch): Gene expression.
